Story of the 1974 coup that overthrew the right-wing Portuguese dictatorship–which continued the fascist policies of long-time dictator Antonio Salazar–and of two young army captains who were involved in it.

Medeiros' attempt must be respected and my pride over the "bloodless revolution" reflects a biased review since on a pure cinematic level, "April Captains" really is a mediocre film, the narrative lacking the tension and paranoia that ultimately led to the need of freedom. If to this one adds poor acting and a "TV movie" cinematography, there's not a long going for a film that could have been extremely important.
Very important to all portuguese, and a good enough effort from Ms. Medeiros. However it feels more like a opinionated TV film than the factual portrait of how the fascist dictatorship ended that April 25th.
