Fantasia '14 Plympton's latest doesn't move to far away from his previous work; in fact its more of the same. However, Plympton's animation, story and song style is always enjoyable. Not one to start with for the unitiated but if you're already a fan enjoy.
"Cheatin'" is a truly unique piece of feature-length animation. It's style is quite off-kilter (which you have to expect from Bill Plympton), yet it's done with a great sense of artful precision. No matter how odd a sequence or character design may initially appear, it all makes sense in it's own delightfully bizarre way. It's like "The Triplets of Belleville"...only with less music and more sex,
So this guy is the Cassavetes of the animation. 10 minutes into it & I had already lost any interest in what was happening on the screen. I was the only grump bag @ the theater who did not fake any applause in the end. My ** rating goes to the 40,000 pencil on paper drawings which compose the movie.
