Prerevoltionary Cuba was just awesome: night bars, good music, alcohol and prostitution. Then the communist came and made it such a bad place where great piano players have to polish the shoes of tourists. If you want to get a different perspective, watch Soy Cuba.
I enjoyed the setting, music and generally the mood most. I appreciate the art direction, especially backgrounds are amazingly detailed, character animations lacked though in my opinion. The weakest part is the story, especially considering the very original and interesting time setting, ending is weak and very unlikely to happen. It's worth watching for the art style and music at least.
You don t know if Rita is really beautiful, but the music and the story def make her beautiful, as the rest of the movie. Also you can see Thelonious Monk, Charlie Parker, Cole Porter, Dizzy Gillespie ... Tito Puente, Chano Pozo: this could have only worked in animation
