Ratings & Reviews

  1. Ethan's rating of the film China Girl

In my opinion this is the best adaptation of Romeo and Juliet. It plays a lot like West Side Story on speed.

  2. Kortirion's rating of the film China Girl

Ferrara captures the tragic and fleeting essence of youth in a modern take on the doomed lovers trope. Surely, Shakespeare himself would approve of this cinematic impression.

  3. bulgrin's rating of the film China Girl

You can already see traces of the next great films of Ferrara's canon. Good transformation of the Shakespearean story into 80ies New York mobster movie.

  4. Samuel T.'s rating of the film China Girl

YES! So much to love here, let's start with the opening sequence all-ages dance party?!?! NICE MOVES. Smelled like Carpenter's street films first half (and this even includes the "girl with green eyes" guy!), but as it progressed with shattered Catholicism and escalating nihilism, well... Also reeked of Old Spice, shoulder pads, and mullets, bonus!

  5. film_lies101's rating of the film China Girl

Probably my favorite adaptation of Romeo & Juliet

  6. Matt's rating of the film China Girl

As good as 'Tromeo & Juliet?'

  7. Justin Vicari's rating of the film China Girl

Excellent atmospheric early Ferrara, opens like a classic Western and soon expands into relentless Fulleresque battle scenes. Great hyperromantic feel too, and very smartly, Ferrara and St. John know the Chinese side as deeply as the Italian one. Best Little Italy location shooting since Mean Streets
