Chopper is a larger than life character. He has written so many different stories about his criminal life that you cant believe anything he says. Eric Bana nails Chopper's personality and humour. You love and hate the man. He scares you while making you laugh. This is Chopper. Beautifully shot and full of Australian-isms. Really puts you there in the criminal world of Australia back in the day.
Excellent film. Accurately captures the Australian sense of humour. As for the weak intro mentioned: it involved the main character stabbing a man repeatedly in the neck, and then feeling remorse almost immediately and offering him a cigarette to make amends (while the blood pooled around him, gushing from his neck) - a fairly good take on Mark Read himself; pretty crazy, but with some decency.
Entertaining and well-directed. The coke and courtroom scenes were well done. I'm guessing the bad VHS cinematography was more the result of a low budget than a creative vision but despite how uncomfortable Chopper has the tendency to make its audience feel it doesn't overstay its welcome.
