Undoubtedly Fernando Meirelles' masterpiece, "City of God", brilliantly shot and exquisitely color graded, transports you into the grim, stark reality of brazilian "favelas", with never a dull moment in sight. The editing is fantastic all the way through, but in the third act it achieves the level of true cinematic accomplishment. A must-see.
Slick ganster movie which certainly owes its success to capitalizing on blending the tastes of the glossiest Hollywood with a pseudo-social commentary from the school of World cinema. Paradoxically traces of poverty from where violence on screen seems to stem from are nowhere to be seen & the slick coverage is a blow to genuinity. Sadly the story is too mono-dimensional to be other than just a glorified action movie.
