Locarno at Home Vol.8: In a sweltering night, you can't sleep because of sultry heat and disgusting humidity. Then, you wake up and walk to a window delivering breezy wind. Gazing at outside full of darkness, you dream of "What are people doing now?" Oneiricly purple & tranquilly beguilling, "打烊時刻" is like your reverie in sleepless night, in which there are landscapes of Taiwan you've never seen before.
Brings to mind similar films of Wang Bing, Chantal Akerman and Denis Côté, but without any social or personal momentum, so much so that it gives up on its subject in the last thirty minutes. It sees Taiwan as little more than a giant chinatown, with no less than three karaoke scenes; Asian people, amirite?
