The gangs of L.A. will never die, just multiply.

  4. Michael Peer's rating of the film Colors

Not as gritty or intense as I was hoping for. The material is ripe for Hopper but the whole film feels sedated. The performances by Penn and Duvall are brilliant and elevate the film. The gangsters are largely miscast and unreflective or real life. While this may have been groundbreaking in the 80s, it's soft by today's standards. For it's time, Colors is a good film with excellent moments but has nothing remarkable.

  5. Ethan's rating of the film Colors

A very harsh look at the relationship between cops and the gangs and the people who get caught in the crossfire. Dennis Hopper could be a great filmmaker when he was given a chance.

  7. mjgildea's rating of the film Colors

A decent but uneven cop drama. Duvall and Penn work well off each other, but the secondary characters kind of made Colors feel a little claustrophobic, at least more claustrophobic than a movie about LA gangs should feel. Seeing Seymour Cassel and Jack Nance in the background was a total bonus but the finale definitely got to me. Just a slight overdose of 80s but not too bad.

  8. Konrad Szlendak's rating of the film Colors

A somehow dated gangster movie (fashion, music etc.) with couple of totally unbelievable details like tough LA gang consisting of black, white and Mexican dudes, but with great acting, first rate photography by Wexler and fair portion of weirdness by Hopper.

  9. Stephen Campbell's rating of the film Colors

A real tough cop movie with great acting and Hoppers direction
