Coming to Terms

Directed by Jon Jost
United States, 2014
Avant-Garde, Drama

Meditation on death and its psychological impact on a broken family – a subject that has kept Jost (1943) very busy recently and which in this case he has moulded into a special narrative structure. The equally experienced filmmaker James Benning plays the father of the family.

  • Jason's rating of the film Coming to Terms

Takes time to adapt. Allow yourself that time. The idea that James Benning would appear in a movie by Jost in 2014 is the kind of unrealistic dream that occasionally comes true. Because it explicitly engages the abyss into which we attempt to communicate, I suspect we will never see Jost's extraordinary work w/ actors foregrounded quite like this. (Im)mortality again is about people, earth, light, and time.
