Ratings & Reviews

  1. Rosina Rossini's rating of the film Contraband

Well structured story. The sexiest film made in England during WWII. Unusual in its casting and charm. Well, it's a Powell and Pressburger after all!

  2. Duncan Gray's rating of the film Contraband

Like, say, The Lady Vanishes, it's not exactly the most logical and airtight of spy stories. But also like British Hitchcock, once it gets going, what it has instead is a bubbling energy, the way danger and twists and verbal ripostes and sexiness keep dancing around each other. There's a real sense of joy here, and Conrad Veidt (for once) gets to delight in playing a hero. 3.5 stars.
