Synopsis

Marquinhos is in his early 20s and lives in Copacabana with his petits bourgeois parents and older brother. He doesn’t have a job, he doesn’t go to school, he just lives on the spur of the moment, watches TV, plays soccer on the beach by day and goes out with his mates by night.

  • saitosouta's rating of the film Copacabana Fools Me

3.5 "Copacabana me engana" fools me gratifyingly by depicting, in effervescent nouvelle-vague style, nonchalant wandering of love-seeking youth on the street. But whilst it is refreshingly flamboyant, at the same time revealed is repulsiveness of homosocial and misogynistic male narcissism, which agonizes me. Still, its cool Tropicalia soundtrack and sophisticated cinematography attracts me deeply. Good old film.
