CORIOLANUS

General Coriolanus returns from war to find himself at odds with his countrymen who see him as a tyrant looking for fame. When his mother tries to orchestrate formal recognition for him, the people revolt and exile him. Thus, together with his former enemy Aufidius, Coriolanus sets out for revenge.

Ralph Fiennes makes his directorial debut—and takes the lead—in this muscular adaptation of Shakespeare’s bloody historical tragedy. Shot largely in Serbia and set “in a place calling itself Rome,” this visceral, contemporary take on the Bard’s military epic wields a commanding allegorical power.
