Corne D’or juxtaposes a poem by Nerval with a powerful study of Ottoman architecture. Before he turned to feature filmmaking in 1968 with Naked Childhood, Pialat worked on a series of short films, many of them financed by French television.

Beautiful Pialat short on the Constantinople history, mystique and geographical privileged location. Shot in gorgeous b/w it measures with care the proportion between long, medium shots, and to a lesser degree close ups, only to weave a fluid tapesty of the city's architectonic splendor gathered around the Muslim obligations of the Sultan. The evocative narration completes the mesmerizing trip to place and memory.
