Ratings & Reviews

  1. FISCHER's rating of the film Counsellor at Law

Un film fort moyen, souvent ennuyeux qui rappelle trop la scène de théâtre dont est issu le scénario ..... www.cinefiches.com

  2. SpacePirate's rating of the film Counsellor at Law

Excellent film. Really holds up well. Barrymore and crew all give fine performances here. I havent seen this in a good five years, need to seek it out again.

  3. Daniel S.'s rating of the film Counsellor at Law

One of William Wyler's early masterpieces. One set like in Detective Story (1951), this time it's Simon & Tedesco's office. An extraordinary actor, John Barrymore (instead of Kirk Douglas) and a smart analysis of class relations. A movie that should be rediscovered. NOW.

  4. Mark Desrosiers's rating of the film Counsellor at Law

John Barrymore swings from ecstasy to suicide (twice! maybe 3 times!) in the most bipolar performance of his career. And he does it all while obviously drunk! I dig his blinking (at cue cards, I'm guessing) during two key scenes, and I love the class warfare that erupts when his lawyer character defends (gratis) a Communist who was beaten up by the cops. Then he almost gets disbarred for... well I got lost there...
