Ratings & Reviews

  1. le Gars's rating of the film Crime and Punishment

This movie is hugely underrated. Like in the finest works by Sternberg, the story and the relationship between the characters are conveyed only through the play of light and shadow.

  2. Diderot's rating of the film Crime and Punishment

This isn't Dostoevsky's Raskolnikov, but Lorre gives a good performance and, despite popular opinion, Sternberg never waned as a director.

  3. Stian Gledje Bekkvik's rating of the film Crime and Punishment

If I like the book the filmmaker must make me forget!

  4. Wee Hunk's rating of the film Crime and Punishment

Nothing to see here, move along. This particular cliche of the Nietzschean criminal is so tired, that not even Mr. Lorre could rescue it. It plays out like a melodrama of a daily soap opera.

  5. Fritz's rating of the film Crime and Punishment

Student of crime or criminal? I like it… Lorre had some monotonous acts, but that would be one of the best monotonous performances he had. The character required that kind of acting. You would be satisfied with all he has to offer. Edward Arnold, as always, great.

  6. chanandre's rating of the film Crime and Punishment

[Cinémathèque PT #274: 35 mm] Peter Lorre <3 The most haunted man in film history.
