A huge hit in N. America, with a charming Aussie Outbacker and a beautiful, savvy reporter playing well off each other. It was silly, but I enjoyed it. That was years ago. Hogan was the guy in the "Throw Another Shrimp On the Barbee" Australian tourism ad campaign; Crocodile Dundee seemed to be an extension of the ad. If it's on the tube today I'll watch the first half for some giggles..
It is a good film. That is, it does its job as a film. The technical and artistic aspects of the film are good and make the film work. What bothered me was the message it's sending. It is wrong in many levels, and one can dismiss it as harmless entertainment, but it's this type of harmlessness that can be dangerous since it shows it that it is okay to act like this. My problem with it is its sociological portrayal.
