Nick Frost's version of Run Fatboy Run. It's nice, but not spectacular. A stellar British cast though. It does sadden me that Simon Pegg cameos in it though. Can't Nick Frost star in his own films without Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright, or is he just another fat English actor better known for his relations then skills?
You can imagine, in other hands, this film treating its central premise w/ a mean-spirit that would have drove it into the ground then sap it up w/ unearned pathos. But this is no Happy Madison production, as this comedy is simply charming from start to finish. It relies on cliches to get by, but the actors commit to and elevate the film into prime feel-good-movie territory. A pleasant surprise!
Fun and warm comedy albeit highly derivative. The whole proceeding stands and falls by the great cast who play their cardboard stereotypes at full volume. Only Rashida Jones seem misplaced while O´Dowd brings slimy, dirty douchebaggery to a new level. Just don't expect to see anything you haven't seen before.
