This is kind of 3 1/2, there are parts I like a lot but watching it right after 42nd Street maybe made it just seem a little more thin and uneven. Ruby Keeler emerging from her own eye is really great though.
This one is pure fun and entertainment. Guy Kibbee is always hilarious in these old WB musicals. Berkeley has some of his best and most elaborate routines in this film. Its almost borderline fetish, and possibly his best stuff since 42nd Street. Essential.
