Talking, more talking and then some more talking.

  2. Juan Javier's rating of the film Danton

  3. David Sindmark Hörnfeldt's rating of the film Danton

There's some magnificent stuff in there, but also some Heaven's Gate level bagginess. I imagine Gerard Depardieau not as much acting as just being himself on set. There's no orgy scene with him but I suppose he didn't have the clout to demand that clause in his contract yet.

  4. msmichel's rating of the film Danton

A major film from Wajda about the French revolution with many a parallel to events taking place in Poland around the same time period. Meticulous in its creation and casting featuring superb turns by Wojciech Pszoniak as Robespierre and Gerard Depardieu in the title role. Also of note is the strong score by Jean Prodromides.

  5. En Sangers Bøn's rating of the film Danton

The movie is nicely made, visually beautiful but remains an extreme simplification of the historical reality and a bit caricatural too. Good acting by Depardieu in the main role. For its originality it remains better than most of the other films on the subject.

  6. A. Fitzgerald's rating of the film Danton

Superb film a gem among many duds.

  7. Kornovska's rating of the film Danton

Excellent film! ;-)

  8. tinderness's rating of the film Danton

  9. Pierre.F's rating of the film Danton

  10. bessede's rating of the film Danton

Puissante évocation, bien qu'un peu bavarde, académique et vaguement pompeuse à mon goût..

  11. filmotrope's rating of the film Danton

This interesting historical drama looks absolutely stunning (almost like a Delacroix painting) but is also overlong and feels too didactic (almost like a filmed History book, to be honest) despite two very intense performances by Gérard Depardieu and Wojciech Pszoniak.

  12. FISCHER's rating of the film Danton

  13. Ethan's rating of the film Danton

Gerard Depardieu is a badass in this film.

  14. Fabio Osvaldo Carta's rating of the film Danton

  15. Silvoieski's rating of the film Danton

Robespierre vs Danton? I don't think so, it's more like " the bad things about French Revolution".

16.'s rating of the film Danton

  17. Sean Patrick Stevens's rating of the film Danton

  18. Jorawantstoeat's rating of the film Danton

Some maneuvers are really good, even if they seem a bit cliche for a contemporary viewer. Like this moment when Danton approaches guillotine and we head a buzz-like chaos of voices. And the last scene is immortal: the boy citing some words to please his sick uncle without any idea of their meaning. A strait but precise metaphor of the way we now perceive those same words. Well done, though no a masterpiece as forme

  19. ihor's rating of the film Danton

A nice costumed historical study of the French Revolution that plays too fast and loose with history for the means of contemporary propaganda. Danton is the romantic noble man of the people representing something of Polish Solidarity. Robespierre is the obsessive authoritarian representing the Polish communist party. The clash between the two is at times interesting but too often feels false and forced.

  20. David Ehrenstein's rating of the film Danton

I suspect the machinations of the revolutionaries resonated with Wajda's experiences in Poland. A very handsome film with nicely calibrated performances from Depardieu and Chereau.

  21. Amadeus Magnus's rating of the film Danton

    Booooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooring ring! Voulez vous?

  22. Daniel Iván's rating of the film Danton

Wajda is always beautiful and deep, but I found this one kind of confusing mainly on its focus on political intricacies and, perhaps, because the resource to portray those intricacies are long, long, long dialogues. A must watch, anyway: it is Wajda.

  23. Guy Sands's rating of the film Danton

    JACQUES VILLERET deserves credit!

  24. Scout Tafoya's rating of the film Danton

    Perhaps Depardieu's finest hour...
