Beautiful recreation of 1970 and Eva Green is an unbelievably sexy (typecast) witch. Gorgeous sets and soundtrack help, but sadly the film doesn't resepect it's potential for an epic soap vampire drama and goes into wimsy overdrive instead and the entire excellent ensemble is mostly wasted for a Johnny Depp that do what he usually does and what was the point of having this big cameo appearance by Alice Cooper?
Taken in part, this contains some of Burton's strongest moments; images & scenes that hint at the potential for something far greater than what he's recently delivered. While its franchise-baiting third act is rushed & its love story underdeveloped, I find the film more satisfying than many. At its heart it's classic Burton; the imagination, the atmosphere, the kitsch, the post-modern; albeit flawed by a poor script.
