Ratings & Reviews

  1. Rafael Zen's rating of the film Day of the Idiots

Schroeter's hysterical craziness reminds me of Ana Carolina's Heart and Guts - they both talk about insanity inside some very specific social statements: popular songs, visual illusion, twisted mirrors. As a fan, I just love the scenes he puts together within his aesthetics - they are so flamboyant inside this excess made to overflow. As a plot, it discusses our need to pursuit freedom as this impossible social task.

  2. Jason's rating of the film Day of the Idiots

The films of Werner Schroeter have become among the most insistent / rewarding pleasures I have discovered over the past couple years. Schroeter and Pialat have been the filmmakers who, though I had encountered them, did not become true titans for me until I was in my thirties. Day of the Idiots is a very special movie. It marries the disinhibition of great melodrama w/ an unflinching investment in the profane.

  3. Ostermyers's rating of the film Day of the Idiots

  4. F.Bieberkopf's rating of the film Day of the Idiots

Magical Schroeter. One day humanity will realise that there was perhaps no greater provocateur on the silver screen.
