Daybreak Directed by Jacques Feyder

What are people saying?

  • Karl J. Kipling's rating of the film Daybreak

Like the sort of thing Lubitsch was doing at the time, except sans song and sans "touch" - the excellent Jacques Feyder is more than competent, but he doesn't have the lightness of old Ernst. What DAYBREAK does have is elegance, some sharp repartee, a pair of attractive leads, and traces of Schnitzlerian dark irony, even if the film's plot only casually resembles Schnitzer's novella, where there are no happy endings.
