Morte di un matematico napoletano

Mario Martone Italy, 1992

josé neves's rating of the film Death of a Neapolitan Mathematician

35mm, rewatched. LEFFEST #13. It would be difficult to find a more accurate cinematic drowsiness, in its dramatic numbness, narrative convention and monochromatic imagery - so much yellow and orange is sick. It's a legend of another holy drinker (although Olmi's film is one of his less interesting ones, he's a much bigger filmmaker), but nothing save it from total boredom, not even the fact that is filmed in Naples.
