A bit overlong. But it's still an unpredictable, and enjoyable film. Peter Ustinov as Hercule Poirot is fine but for me Albert Finney is the benchmark. It's the attitude. While Ustinov is more on the comedian, comical side; Finney is more on the arrogant, dominant side. Fine entertainment.
Pleasant evocation of an essentially musty genre with the mechanical plot devices smoothed over by decorous art direction: all pretty back-drops and over-cut costumes peopled by fruity turns. Like any cake, it’s sweet to the taste but not especially good for you. Nino Rota’s stately score is a treat.
