Death Wish 4 gets down to business as usual pretty rapidly (despite the sequence culminating in a Luke Skywalker-confronts-himself moment), and its cold efficiency hammers home the series’ fundamental unsavoriness in a new mode.
I'm a discerning enough movie viewer to know crap when I see it. And Death Wish 4 is unarguably crap, but sometimes you just can't bring yourself to care because you're having so much fun. Death Wish 4 is like Yojimbo being dry-humped by a mad lib plot while all the worst aspects of 80s culture fondle themselves from a dark corner. For me it was such a fun watch I looked past its abundant shortcomings.
