  2. msmichel's rating of the film Deceptive Practice: The Mysteries and Mentors of Ricky Jay

Interesting excursion into the story of those who mentored and helped shape Ricky Jay and his study of magic. A little self serving perhaps but certainly never boring as Jay is a natural born storyteller.

  3. Matt McManus's rating of the film Deceptive Practice: The Mysteries and Mentors of Ricky Jay

Really loved that the focus of this documentary isn't on the tricks themselves & the analyzing of them – unlike other magician documentaries – but is on how tricks are pasted down through the 'masters' and 'mentors'. Very interesting

In the company of Ricky Jay, you're always watching a master at work.

  5. Vinegar Factory's rating of the film Deceptive Practice: The Mysteries and Mentors of Ricky Jay

Dork or not this is a charming portrait of a master of his art. I still can't imagine the ice cube effect without exploring the idea of time travel- how else!? Take the time and give this doc a view.

  7. Timbo of Boston's rating of the film Deceptive Practice: The Mysteries and Mentors of Ricky Jay

Really entertaining and a lovely profile. Inspired by a 1993 New Yorker article on Ricky Jay, the filmmakers spent years convincing him to share his knowledge of magic history, his collection of obscure memorabilia, and some of the background on the art of prestidigitation—though never his secrets. Having seen his show in 1993, I can attest to the stunning dexterity and seeming impossibility of his tricks.

  8. dave gunn's rating of the film Deceptive Practice: The Mysteries and Mentors of Ricky Jay

If you're a total dork about magic, sleight of hand, or general illusionism (I am), you'll love this.

  9. Phil Worfel's rating of the film Deceptive Practice: The Mysteries and Mentors of Ricky Jay

Just a delight from beginning to end.
