Ratings & Reviews

  1. Karl J. Kipling's rating of the film Deep River

Falls into the "nice try" category but fails for the same reasons the novel fails: the story of several wounded souls who travel to India to heal/find themselves has all the spiritual and intellectual depth of a self-help book. Endo was wrestling with the narrowness of Catholicism, coming to embrace the idea that all religions are different perspectives of God and truth. But both book and film are pretty schematic.
