Love you Mubi!!!! Watched parts 1 & 2 over 20 years ago and was sooo happy to see this brought back in HD! True that this isn't the scariest movie out there but it is definitely a pleasure to watch for those that are nostalgic of the 80's (music and costumes). Loved it!!
Call this a parallel story of what happens at the same time as the original even if it is a copy of the original. Puppet like Gremlins-type demons are hilariously bad and there is even a worse looking zombie dog. It has several loose threads and I hate it's ending. Asia Argento is very watchable though as a young trapped child in peril and there is some effective make-up and deaths that can be hard to forget.
The isolated, corporate / conglomerate / cosmopolitan setting is so Cronenberg, so Dawn of the Dead, and so Die Hard, even its seizure-inducing neon strobe child demon birth scene could not distract enough from the bothering allusions to other sources. Would make a great companion piece to Shivers. Also, it's mildly racist.
(2.5 stars) Once again, it's pretty much more of the same. A lot of blood, a lot of screaming and a LOT of '80s cheesiness. (This time complete with an entire aerobics class getting close and friendly with the demon zombies). It's late night horror fun with a good '80s synth soundtrack. Ridiculous giallo style horror.
Bava attempts to further the mythology of the first film with this lesser second entry that takes place in an apartment building with the mondus operati being a television broadcast this time. Whats missing this time out is the horror but there is gore aplenty for the gore hounds as well as some embarrassing old school effects ie: puppetry. Also of note as Asia Argento's screen debut.
