Ratings & Reviews

  1. msmichel's rating of the film Detroit 9000

Solid police flick made during the height of black exploitation film that dared to push the envelope a little further on black/white relations. Despite its colourful and racially charged language the film stands up better than many of its contemporaries.

  2. fred boswell's rating of the film Detroit 9000

Urban classic yet again under the public radar

  3. mpho3's rating of the film Detroit 9000

honkies, jigaboos, redskins, mackrel snappers, bohunks, polacks - everybody gets some! Coleman Young, was it really like that? Yep.

  4. Ethan's rating of the film Detroit 9000

This is a very underrated movie that is one of the best films made about race relations that is also packed with a lot of action and badassery. This is a true gem of blaxploitation films.

  5. mjgildea's rating of the film Detroit 9000

Calling Detroit 9000 a blaxploitation flick seems too easy. Sure, it looks, sounds and for the most part even feels like one but its commentary on race & race relations tries its damnedest to let its audience know its more than its contemporaries. If that's too heavy for you, its still a fun watch with plenty of old-timey racism (Alex Rocco's wife alone!) and goofy editing. Decent twist at the end, too.
