How fragile is youth, especially in a time when Western materialism is crushing everything. Davy Chou follows Bora who comes to Phnom Penh for a better future. He finds his older brother who left home 5 years before, first love, how it feels to become an adult. Slow, beautifully shot, great cast (Sobon Nuon as Bora is luminous), a very effective score by French composers Jérémie Arcache and Christophe Musset.

It is a classical coming of age film with also this coming of country feel to it. It was a good improvement from his last short which paved the way to this film. As Diamond is nothing more than carbon, also this city and this generation are nothing more than regular people who are about to see what the diamond is all about and what you have to leave behind to make it in the city. A promising debut...
