Ratings & Reviews

  1. Erik F.'s rating of the film Diary of a Mad Housewife

I think the only cinematic husband worse than Richard Benjamin in this film would be Eddie Marsan in "Tyrannosaur." How sad/scary it is to think that there are men in real life who are just like them, or even worse!

  2. El Biffo's rating of the film Diary of a Mad Housewife

A forgotten/underrated gem of '70s New Hollywood. Carrie Snodgrass and Richard Benjamin are perfect, and Frank Langella is so mean, really something perfectly nasty. The Motherwell in his apartment is a great touch, and there is a great (early!) Alice Cooper performance, and a last-minute cameo by Peter Boyle! Amazon is selling this on DVD-R, printed on demand-I guess that's their new scam ($28) 2 versions are on YT.

  3. Polyglot's rating of the film Diary of a Mad Housewife

A total deconstruction and metamorphosis of the American housewife.

  4. Jaspar Lamar Crabb's rating of the film Diary of a Mad Housewife

One of the best and least appreciated films of the 1970s. C'mon Universal Pictures, get this movie out there!

  5. James Ruiz's rating of the film Diary of a Mad Housewife

Outstanding movie how it captured the manhattan housewife the drama of a over bearing husdand.

  6. T. J. Harman's rating of the film Diary of a Mad Housewife

Snodgrass is great at being interesting and not just pitiful given the material. Benjamin and Langella excel at playing very different assholes. Loved the anti-climatic ending with the rolling credits over the closeup on Tina.

  7. This is Jake Kath's rating of the film Diary of a Mad Housewife

For the sheer filmmaking, this movie dazzled me. 70s cinema never felt this breezy before! As for the content, we have a hilarious dry comedy about the role of a housewife who has been pushed and shoved into every social standard. Somehow the movie manages to not be a feminist rant but an emotional comedy in the end.
