"La Jetée" in a novelistic application, via pulp fiction, that transforms Marker's premises by a careful manipulation of images, combining both the differences in meaning between the text-off and the photos and its elaboration, in an interior permanent game of deconstruction. A complex analysis of narrativity and the origins of the being, adrift in a multitude of signs and significations.
Curiously Godardian and a little cruel. A sordid semiotic melodrama with wonderfully crappy synthesizer accompaniment that would be at home on an early Legendary Pink Dots release. Still, somewhat disappointing since I could imagine the thought processes involved in the film's production, which is not something I can say for any of Ruiz' other films I've seen from the 70s or 80s.
