La quete cinématographique d'une vie de Robert GEDIGUIAN pour faire (re)connaître le peuple arménien, ses souffrances dans l'histoires et ce pays méconnu, l'Arménie === The cinematographic quest of a lifetime of Robert GEDIGUIAN to make (re) know the Armenian people, their suffering through history and this unknown country, Armenia 2,5/5
An overtly political movie which often feels like an educational film on the Armenian genocide - which is of course an important issue but treated this way makes poor cinema. The story of the wounded Gilles - who seems to stand for current France: wounded and confused - is the most interesting one and makes the film alive. Otherwise the film’s rather generic tale of idealist-cum-disillusioned-terrorist.
All the good intentions in the world cannot save this film from its atrocious dialogue and acting. It had all the elements to be a fascinating insight into a troubled history. As an Armenian, I have yet to see *the* film about the genocide, the Schindler's list of Armenian history. Une Histoire de Fou was a little too victimizing, and never really showed both sides of the conflict. Nuance is the key.
CINEMANIA '15 Guediguian tells a tale set in the '70's about Armenian retribution for the genocide of 1915 and examines the impact of terrorism. When does retribution and the strive for justice become radicalized terror and injustice for others? Guediguian wisely looks at both sides of the equation but the script does get a little lost in its subplot of a wounded Frenchman looking for answers. Cast is outstanding.
