A rich-man’s soap opera with plenty of Trollope-esque plot criss-crossing and - a little too much - villianous character connivance. However effective soap operas need plot motors and drivers, and those here are well polished despite some unlikely over-familiarity between upper and working classes. Nevertheless it’s well crafted (egregious music aside) and establishes character with deft economy.
All-around quality. The creation of time and setting is palpable throughout. There are memorable characters scattered throughout. And the storyline/writing masterfully walks the tightrope between soap opera and high drama. Outstanding and one that I'll gladly revisit from time to time.
Finally. I made it. From season 1 to 6, all episodes. I'm lov'n it. Although derived, I guess, from "Upstairs downstairs" broadcasted 1971-1975 this is a completely "technically updated" version of it. Same top-notch superior quality in all terms like script, dialogues, cast, set-up, attention to detail & cinematography. Wonderful. Masterpiece.
