Get past the comparisons of The Raid and the laughable CGI slow mo blood from exit bullet wounds and Dredd is a solid action film that unfortunately doesn't get the credit it deserves because no doubt it's being compared to a cheesy as fuck Stallone era 90s version. And you also have a sub villian unlike the Marvel bullshit that is actually intimidating, strategic and a real threat. Please green light this to TV!
DREDD is a simple, unashamed power fantasy devoid of pretension. Karl Urban spends 90 minutes blowing away crack-heads with surprisingly blatant violence. Olivia Thirbly, along for the ride as the audience surrogate, provides a human element to counter Urban's embodiment of draconian law. Though primarily entertainment, DREDD takes time to criticize the belief that justice and law are the same. It's good violent fun.
