Here's the thing: I like Elaine, her attitude, her style, her more intimate conversations, her story, her everything. Like many of those interviewed said, she has a way of capturing your attention and keeping a firm grip on it. The same cannot be said about the documentary itself. While the subject was interesting and entertaining, it had the quality and heart of an episode of Biography.
Stritch's personality is so incredibly magnetic and admirable that I would have been content with just watching her interact with random people for 80 minutes straight. But on top of that we watch her deal with alcoholism, personal insecurities, and an aging body all while preparing for a final string of shows. And she still looks great in that white button-up + tights look! You will never be as cool as her.
