What are people saying?

  • Egoisms's rating of the film Elms

"A city blighted by these sickly trees is a city that dreams too much, and lives too little." Like David Lynch's "Boat", "Elms" is an eccentric passion project. Madden might be parodying poetic imagism, first, by having the narrator imitate the stilted diction of text-to-speech software (so precise it's comic & inhuman), & second, by employing correct though purple prose. He may be parodying himself, a surrealist.
