Michael Eklund gives a fine central performance in this sci-fi thriller that utilizes fine photography and a striking use of color, a mix of radiant saturation at times, and monochromatic desaturation other times. However, the other cast members aren't very satisfying, dampening the drama in its 1st half. The action of the 2nd half makes it feel unnatural in tone and uneven in flow.
A fair calling card for Eron Sheean which could lead to more interesting work. Film is a blend of science gone amok, contagion thriller and drama that mostly gets by on its familiarity and lead turn by Michael Eklund. Other performances run the gamut from miscast to overacting. Final twist is somewhat clever but in the end the film neither delivers as genre thriller or drama leaving one cold.
Hm. Leads well-acted, and DP Howard does fine work (editing a bit quick for what it is). However the final "twist" is revealed two-thirds in, sorta offhand/obviously, so the ending was more "Well, yeah, so?" than "OH SHIIIT!" Guess I was expecting more body horror than scientist infighting? Solid debut though.
