  • Nick Schwab's rating of the film Evil Dead

Amps up the video-nasty spirit of the original. Looking at '81 unbiasedly, it too depended much on its gore for gore sake but had a fun, EC comic-book vibe. With the exception of some sarcastic humor by Pucci, '13 goes only for scares and is unflinchingly brutal: it's one of the most extreme films ever released in the mainstream. The scene-to-scene one-upmanship and its dead serious nature make it better than '81.

  • MATTEO BITTANTI's rating of the film Evil Dead

This was actually funnier than Cabin in the Woods. The sheer inanity of American horror remakes reaches a new low. The real question on everybody's mind is: Can they get even worse? American horror is DEAD. Buried alive.

  • J. O.'s rating of the film Evil Dead

Yet another remake that not only forsakes the spirit of the original film (and its first remake, aptly titled Evil Dead 2), it can't even manage to pull off its "gorno" style. With no exaggeration, nearly every scare was a music cue and some sort of violent flash, lacking any context or relevance. The acting was painful, at best, and the campy aura it needed was lost to pointless gore and a horrifyingly bad script.

  • Tigrão's rating of the film Evil Dead

I'll give 3 stars for the good cinematography, some genuine scares, and a good ending. However, it's far too serious and gory to be anything else than an average horror movie without much imagination behind it.

  • This is Jake Kath's rating of the film Evil Dead

Okay, minus some really obvious bad decisions that the characters choose that's hard to take at face value, this is a horror remake that mainly gets it right! It takes the basic premise and troupes of the original and doesn't do them beat by beat but mostly re-imagines them. Its hard to pull off serious supernatural horror but this movie does it pretty damn well. Also, the last 10 minutes are just killer!

  • Tyler Aikens's rating of the film Evil Dead

Not fun at all, which means it's one hell of a failure as an Evil Dead remake. The gore's all there, but it takes itself way too seriously. It's like an Evil Dead x One Tree Hill mash-up up until the final 10 minutes when the movie finally grows a pair.

  • Matthew_Lucas's rating of the film Evil Dead

Not offensive because it's a remake (I don't like Raimi's original either), Fede Alvarez's EVIL DEAD is offensive just for being so shamelessly empty. A tonally schizophrenic, often downright silly film, it mistakes over the top gore for actual scares. It's not "the most terrifying film you will ever experience," it's not even the most disgusting, it's a bland gore fest that's trying too hard to gross everyone out.

  • Juan Barquin's rating of the film Evil Dead

Ignore the dumb yells of "remake" and all that bullshit. It is without a doubt its own story, regardless of all its love for the original films (and the shared title). It kicks off to a slow start, but the last act alone was enough for me to declare undying love for Fede Alvarez and Jane Levy, who was truly phenomenal throughout.
