A little less pose and attitude in certain sequences and this nothing solemn perspective of the historic cinema would be far more interesting than what already is. Jum- cuts and pop songs, typical of some hype of current cinema, are dispensable, but the close-up image of a horny penis as the "origin of the world", a fun opposition to Courbet, is more iconoclastic than one might expect. An intelligent divertissement.
There is no shortage of art these last number of years (literary, cinematic) declaring Spain at a crossroads. It was thus more than a little sophisticated for ace producer Miñarro to make his directorial debut a droll depiction of life at a previous Spanish crossroads. In it we find power and prestige doing what power and prestige do when there is nothing for power and prestige to do. Very funny movie about downtime.
