Lindsay Anderson was right: Jennings was a filmic poet of Great Britain. The beautiful scantion of his married image, sound and narration is just so seemingly effortless & clear sighted in its patrician certainties. Short of a chorus of Rule Britannia this is a neatly subjective selective history which wears its commissioned status lightly. He was a tragic loss to cinema not just the British documentary school.
