Father's Day is a parody and an homage to exploitation/grindhouse movies but is more entertaining, more creative, and more akin to this genre than other films that play it slightly straighter, including 2007's Grindhouse. It's also funny as hell, a definite labor of love for the style, and uproarious in its comical wit. Father's Day is akin to uncontrollable mad laughter.
What "Wet Hot American Summer" is to early 80s summer camp sex comedies, "Father's Day" is to the grimy revenge thrillers of the 70s. Bizarre, hilarious, and utterly unpredictable-- a work of demented comic genius.
