Ratings & Reviews

  1. FISCHER's rating of the film Fear City

    Du déjà vu plutôt conventionnel...

  2. Dogville59's rating of the film Fear City

In spite of how much this film is catering to the male gaze I still enjoyed it. It maintained my interest throughout and the 80's feel is so intense it's almost as if it was made recently as a caricature of the 80's but it was actually made in 1984.

  3. Jeremiah Johnson's rating of the film Fear City

This movie is genius. Its got 4 genres operating smoothly to please the masses. A bit for everyone - karate, slasher, sexy dancers, gumshoe noir(EVERYTHING)! And done in style.

  4. Drafthing Dan's rating of the film Fear City

Filled with 80s! I got the butterflies when I faced the perilous, but alluring night of NY with jaunty rhythm music of synthesizer. The glare of neon lights, strippers, the marshal-arts expert, the agent who was once pro boxer and of course had killed his opponents in the match, all stand out as a character which embody the atmosphere of the smell and taste of good old 80s. A lovable B-class movie.

  5. captainfez's rating of the film Fear City

If you're expecting Bergman, you'll be disappointed. If you're expecting strippers, neon and naked martial arts, you will be well served.

  6. filmingilman's rating of the film Fear City

Considered 'hit or miss' and a cult classic, it was a real miss for me. Once you get past the nostalgia factor (shouldn't last longer that the hideously 80's opening credits), there isn't much there. Could be funny if it were made now as an homage to 80's thrillers, but it wasn't. It was made then and is much less funny. Helps explain why Billy Dee Williams disappeared by 1985 (okay, he was in Batman in '89).

  7. Cependant's rating of the film Fear City

  8. tinderness's rating of the film Fear City

  9. Massimo C's rating of the film Fear City

Good movie. Nice alternative to other Mubi's films that might be more heavy to watch.

  10. DrFirestone's rating of the film Fear City

Interesting mixture of action, noir, "kung-fu", gangsters; all flavoured with the 80's magic. It's not easy to rate this film for me: on the one hand it has dated quite badly, but on the other it's a statement of its time... I loved the colours, the analogue cinematography, and the cast. Overall, it's a mixed bag; but if you forgive it the silly storyline, this film can be enjoyable!

  11. Andy Cucumber's rating of the film Fear City

A goddamn gorgeously vibrant neondrenched sleazefest

  12. 絵莉's rating of the film Fear City

goes without saying...misogynistic , but fun.

  13. OLIVER-J's rating of the film Fear City

trashy, gritty, enjoyable and frequently unintentionally funny. not too many surprises from Ferrara here.

  14. Kamil's rating of the film Fear City

It's much funnier when you think of it as a sequel to Karate Kid

  15. Test's rating of the film Fear City

  16. Johnny Seeker's rating of the film Fear City

Reads more like a video game and less like a film! Everything here is two-dimensional mines the amazing cinematography!

  17. Steve G.'s rating of the film Fear City

An hour and a half of Carl Weathers calling people greaseballs.

  18. Jason's rating of the film Fear City

First: doesn't Berenger (that hair!) look more than a little like Robert Pollard, frontman of Guided by Voices? As Hollywood would have him (not that this is Hollywood, like, at all). Dumb muscle and thoughtless action. This guy is an unforgivable, reckless lunkhead. This world is total sleaze. The movie relishes sleaze. Sleaze is its selling point. This is actually a delirious collection of really dire symptoms.

  19. runfromfire's rating of the film Fear City

Pure 80s crime flick. Creepy-ass killer, vigilante Berenger lookin' like The Hoff, Billy Dee rockin' that homocide cop archetype & that rough-around-the-edges NYC backdrop.

  20. Garrett Langston's rating of the film Fear City

A terrifically violent neon piece of 80s pulp from the vicious Abel Ferrara.

  21. Landen Celano's rating of the film Fear City

    A slimy, grimy late-night great.

  22. adamjaymorris's rating of the film Fear City

Would've been better without the dialog. But watch it to see Melanie Griffith attempt to do an early-80s update to Marilyn Monroe while cast as a bisexual junkie stripper.

  23. Victor Gonzalez's rating of the film Fear City

Not the best Ferrara. It can be dull most of the time.

  24. Slappy McGee's rating of the film Fear City

(1.5 stars) Melanie Griffith is THE worst bigger named actress who has slept her way to her semi-fame (true story). And she's just as awful here as she is in any movie she's in. I understand that people may have a guilty pleasure liking of this film, but it is not a good movie. Not at all. Only Billy Dee is worth watching. He is always one cool cat. “There’s nothing I hate more than Guineas in Cadillacs.”
