The picture begins with three film men—a writer, a director and a popular star, the latter played by the perky but obviously middleaged Willy Fritsch—sitting down in the country and trying to dream a story for a new film. They agree only on one thing: they don’t want a war film.

My first Rudolf Jugert film. Camera, Soundtrack an editing precede Godard by more than ten years, although they are not used as a subversive mean. It also breaks the fiction several times. At the same time it captures very strong impressions of the period and at no point does it boast with its means. On the contrary, it embraces its entertaining aspect, which makes it very likeable!
