Ratings & Reviews

  1. Karl J. Kipling's rating of the film Final Take: The Golden Age of Movies

I like Yamada Yoji. He's one of the only ones who came up in the sixties who didn't sneer at his elders and betters from the "Golden Age of the Movies." Indeed his healthy reverence for Ozu & co. is what makes him the only one worthy to carry the torch. As a director of sentimental melodramas he has few peers. I can't think of many other directors so lacking in cynicism and malice. This little homage is very fine.
