Dylan Gelula did a great job. Loved her awkwardness and sense of style. Soundtrack is amazing.

  8. Henrique Amud's rating of the film First Girl I Loved

A tender look at a brutal struggle to be oneself as a queer teenager when you really don't know who to trust. Sanga's script is not always the brightest, but it never ceases to surprise (for good and bad) while his directing is seamless. What you need to pay attention here though is for Dyan Gelula because she's pretty fucking terrific.

  12. Magnus Boobytron's rating of the film First Girl I Loved

This was 91 minutes of a teenage lesbian being shat upon in just about every way except the literal. Even so, this film may as well qualify as scat porn because it is just that vile and shitty. Dylan Gelula alone saves this film from a complete zero rating. She deserved so much more than what director Sanga served up here. And if I were the sister for whom Sanga wrote this trope-ridden anal leakage, I'd disown him.

  16. Skinnedteen's rating of the film First Girl I Loved

This film is a hit and miss. It's a coming of age story about a queer woman who falls in love with another girl and guess what, no lesbians die on this one. Rare isnt it? As much as I love how Anne's story evolves, this film didn't seem to reach the level it aspires to. Some scenes came out of nowhere, and it tries to insert new narratives that couldn't develop any further. Still recommend watching it otherwise.

  19. spiderliliez's rating of the film First Girl I Loved

You know, it really started out quite well. I really wanted to like this. But despite my passion for queer films involving women.. I couldn't deny how disappointed I was. And it's not about the story. But man, the screenplay seem all over the place! And you couldn't help stop but muster alternate lines for its characters. It's a good story, poorly scripted.. let's put it that way. But Dylan Gelula, is a STAR!

  20. Michael Peer's rating of the film First Girl I Loved

An eloquent and tender look at high school romance and sexual identity. First Girl I Loved dissects a love triangle, of sorts, honestly, never falling into cliché, while always keeping a sense of humor and levity. Sanga has a gift for authenticity and complete reign over his actor. This is a wonderful film that will touch and connect with everyone who's ever been to high school.
