Ratings & Reviews

  1. VincentVendetta's rating of the film Forbidden

There are some moments between Stanwyck and Menjoy, some camera shots, some travellings; there is something in here. But my God this is some wretched, dirty, heavy, cheap, manipulative melodramatic screenwriting. And whenever you try to take a step back and enjoy what you have, it's gonna go as wrong as it possibly could.

  2. Aida's rating of the film Forbidden

pornographic in its depiction of female martyrdom. almost despicable.

  3. El Biffo's rating of the film Forbidden

I may have to watch every picture Barbara Stanwyck ever made...

  4. Diderot's rating of the film Forbidden

One of the very best Capra films and one of the very best Stanwyck performances. It's a version of the Stella Dallas/Blonde Venus/Mildred Peirce type with just the right kind of sentimentality admixed with despair.

  5. FISCHER's rating of the film Forbidden

DCP. Undoubtedly, one of Stanwick's best phases was with Capra in the 1930's, the pinnacle of her naive beauty and energy. On the other hand, it was also on the part of Capra, having performed with her beautiful melodramas of self-denial and romantic faith, adjusted to an absolutely amazing visual construction in its fairness and invention. For example, the sequence of separation/reunion in the rain at the park...

  8. Illusion Travels By Streetcar's rating of the film Forbidden

    "Powerful naivete."

  9. Daniel S.'s rating of the film Forbidden

A melodrama that is never ridiculous as it is always the case with Frank Capra. Love, Devotion, Truthfulness are embodied to perfection by Barbara Stanwyck. Recommended.
