Critics reviews

While it unfolds as a particularly enthralling “current affairs” story, Forbidden Lie$ plays right at the edges of documentary form. Taking full advantage of digital techniques, Broinowski embeds images within multiple screens and cheekily overdubs unreal sound effects.

  • pivic's rating of the film Forbidden Lie$

Absolutely stunning documentary about Norma Khouri, a woman who claimed to have written an account of a woman who was the victim of an honour-killing in Jordan. Problem is, some of Khouri's statements were revealed as false by a journalist. Since then, Broinowski has made this beautiful attempt to unveil what really happened. Wonderful editing, and Broinowski's way of framing Khouri is brilliant. More than "Catfish".
