Mubi's copy has inconsistencies. It's listed as having English audio & no subtitles, but at 92 minutes it switches to Italian with English subs, then back & forth. Subs also appear (often cropped at the bottom) when actors read notes, newspapers etc written in Italian. This is an Italian film: I'd expect Italian audio, for consistency. I gave up on Amazon Prime because of similar issues. I expect better from Mubi.
I recommend this movie, especially to fans of Argento (of course), but it's not the best example of a movie of this type. It's not even in the top 5 Argento movies of this type, in my opinion. Nonetheless, this is a good film with an abundance of style and ingenuity. And some musical input from Ennio Morricone.
The title keeps you wondering what is all about until the final revelation which is a brilliant concept. The exquisite photography and some really clever editing devices keep you watching but the pace is heavy going. It leaves you with the feeling there wasn’t enough material for a feature here and it had to be stretched to the limit. A real curiosity.
Least favorite from the trilogy but still a well written one, with its dose of tense atmosphere. With this one and the two others from the trilogy Argento confirms that he stands among the finest directors in the thriller-giallo genre. However Suspiria remains his most aesthetic accomplished with its splendid romantical morbidity.
Every motherfucker will go on and on and on and declare that Suspiria or Profondo Rosso is the greatest Giallo film of all time, But no one will ever mention this film. This is the 2nd greatest Giallo of them all (Blood and Black Lace by Mario Bava is 1st) and this has hands down the greatest giallo soundtrack (conducted by the maestro Ennio Morricone) with the greatest climax IN Slow Motion ever filmed.
