A very boring "kill-by-numbers" affair where the filmmakers don't even try to inject any semblance of story. Eventhough the kill are creative and varied (if you´re into that sorta thing) it does not make up for bad acting, bad plotting and a sluggish narrative. The only saving grace is Manfredini's score which is very good.
Along with part 4, the most solid sequel. Characters are likeable and enough unique to care about them - much older pot smokers, self-despising geek or Audrey Hepburn lookalike. Barn scene is one of the franchise's highlights, and there's a perfect balance between Jason as an unstoppable force and Jason as an ordinary psychotic degenerate. If you're gone watch just one Friday, this one would be recommendable.
The most memorable thing with this sequel is that Jason gets his hockey mask and killing teenagers in 3D so if you see the 2D it ain't even worth it's two stars. I found the heroine attractive enough to keep me watching the film, but they should have taken a long break after the third film with the franchise.
3-D version. The third in the long running series picks up where the previous left us and somehow dumps another group of teens near the events of the previous. Guess the cops were to busy to evacuate the area. The 3-D is of the 'comin at ya' variety and any prop the filmmakers could think of dangling at us...they do. Ok of its kind but the formula was already wearing thin.
Though it lacks a whiz-bang finale like Parts I and II, this installment is the most consistently enjoyable of the three. Jason finally gets the iconic mask, the characters have more character, and the filmmakers finally have the formula down pat. And holy Toledo, is that opening credits track the most wonderfully and woefully 1980s slice of cheese imaginable or what?
Friday the 13th Part III is somewhat of a mixed bag. The characters here are just so unlikable and boring! The only semi-memorable one is Shelly and that's just because of how annoying he is. However as soon as Jason dawns his iconic hockey mask and makes very creative use of some scuba gear this movie really kicks it into high gear! After three movies we finally get to see Jason fully realized and it is glorious!
I'm through with this series. If it wasn't for iCheckMovies, I wouldn't have even watched this one. I just couldn't care less about horny students getting killed in the most imaginative ways. The whole thing gets old real quick when there are no redeeming qualities to the film itself. I appreciate the series's giallo inspiration, but it's not utilized that imaginatively, making the films formulaic and boring.
